The game Empire by GoodGame is a fun and free flash based feudal style simulation. It is easy to learn with a helpful tutorial as you begin to play. Once you arrive at the website silvergames.com you first select your language. I chose World 1 for English, then made up a username, and entered a valid email address and created a password. As the game starts, bright red arrows and clearly written text guild you through the first several stages.
You defeat a castle and are rewarded with your own land and minimal castle on which to build. At first I just followed the quests I was given, and as you do, the "Goodgame Empire" tutorial helps you less and less, but always popped up when there was something new to learn. I really liked that! Very early in the game you can do your own thing, if you have the resources to build; wood, stone, rubies and gold. You also build dwellings and farms as your population grows, then it’s time to collect taxes, and more gold.
As you complete a quest in Goodgame Empire you are given rewards to level up and gain resources. As you gain levels, you are given more building options like barracks and headquarters. At one point I was low on rubies, and when I clicked to get more I was offered a chance to purchase some. The cost was reasonable, but I wanted to play free a bit more. I was able to finish more quests and get rubies as rewards, and was very happy to see I could really play for free. Soon I had hundreds of rubies, all free.
I admit that I expected to be forced to pay for a free game, but this was not the case. I made it to level 6 in about 20 minutes of play and never spent a penny. Buying rubies would speed up the game, but is not required to play, and they give you bonus rubies every day you log in. I like games that are simple to learn but still fun, and Goodgame Empire was all that and more. I recommend you give it a try.
